Admin
Africa reporter - part-time The Christian Science Monitor, an internationally-focused, Pulitzer Prize-winning daily newspaper, is seeking a half-time Africa correspondent to work in tandem with another half-time writer. We are looking for a practiced reporter and skilled writer, preferably with experience writing for an international audience, to analyze national political developments, explain continental diplomatic trends, and write enterprise features on social and cultural issues. The Christian Science Monitor does not regularly cover breaking news, so we will be looking for someone to write thoughtful pieces in a lively manner for our daily online edition (www.csmonitor.com) and weekly hardcopy magazine. The successful candidate will be from the region or will have lived there for a significant length of time, and will be currently based in Africa. In addition to English, she/he will preferably have fluent command of at least one other language and be willing to travel throughout the continent. The half-time Africa correspondent will work closely with the Africa Editor in Boston to produce regular news analysis and feature stories of around 1,000 words, and to occasionally write longer pieces, up to 3,000 word cover stories for the magazine. If you think you fit the bill, please send a cover letter to the International News Editor, Peter Ford, at fordp@csps.com, with a copy to the Africa Editor, Molly Jackson, at jacksonm@csps.com explaining your interest in this position and setting out how your reporting skills and experience match The Christian Science Monitor’s approach to the news. Please attach your CV and selected clips that best illustrate your work, especially pieces that you think would suit The Christian Science Monitor.
