Jonathan R
Tanzania has added to its intensive repression of the media with new regulations saying that local broadcasters are banned from carrying foreign content without getting permission from the government first. It has also banned Tanzanian journalists from working with foreign correspondents unless they are accompanied by a government minder. This is a huge reversal for a country that in the 1990s was one of the countries leading the new wave of democracy in Africa. It makes it feel a lot more like North Korea or the old Soviet Union than a supposed democracy.
