Guardian Media Group (GMG) is a leading global media organisation, the publisher of the Guardian, which celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2021, the Observer and theGuardian.com, which attracts over 200 million global unique browsers each month. We are renowned for our ground-breaking independent journalism and our award-winning digital products.

We are now looking for a Kenya (East Africa) correspondent for a 9 month secondment or freelance contract, to report on the region, with special emphasis on development and health for all Guardian and Observer platforms, including daily news and analysis, news features, multi-media material, and material for non-news sections as required.

About The Role

  • Produce content (text, audio etc) for all our platforms
  • Work with international editors to identify and develop the best possible content
  • Keep the international editors informed of stories in development
  • Help develop innovative digital storytelling

 About You

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of Kenya/ east Africa 
  • Strong track record of reporting and feature writing
  • Good understanding of requirements of international correspondents
  • Prior journalistic experience, working in a fast-moving news environment, preferably for a national newspaper or respected publication (print or online)
