Job Introduction

The BBC is an international multimedia broadcaster on radio, TV, online and social networks with a weekly global audience of 320 million. As part of a historic multi-million pound expansion of BBC Africa, the BBC World Service has introduced a wide range of new and exciting language and regional content to serve African and global audiences.  The BBC is the world leader in broadcast newsgathering at the forefront of both the range of editorial coverage and technological innovation.

We are looking to recruit a French / English Bilingual Reporter to work in our Kinshasa bureau.  This is a key role for an experienced Reporter who will deliver timely, expert and authoritative coverage of news and current affairs events throughout DRC.

Role Responsibility

Your role as Bilingual Reporter is to provide timely, expert and authoritative coverage of news and current affairs events in DRC for TV, radio, digital and online.  You will have an excellent network of contacts ad access to news-makers and be able to supply material for broadcast in fluent broadcast-standard French and English.  We expect you to report on news and current affairs in a timely, engaging manner which is suitable for our target audience.  You will stay well briefed on West African affairs in order to report and comment with authority.  You will have to travel across DRC at short notice in order to report on breaking news.

Due to the nature of this role, you may be required to travel at short notice, therefore flexibility is key.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have an excellent command of English and French language (both written and spoken), with a track record in a senior journalistic background.  Experience of reporting in the field on issues in the target region is essential.  Experience of working in hostile environments is important.  You must have a thorough knowledge of regional and international affairs.  You will have a strong broadcasting voice and a track record of accuracy and impartiality.
