Using a participatory community-based approach. FilmAid Kenya provides displaced people with actionable information about their rights, safety, health, and future. Using compelling video, radio, print, SMS, and digital multimedia campaigns. FilmAid Kenya reaches over 400,000 people every year. Project background / Description and scope of work FilmAid Kenya is seeking a talented, creative, high-energy filmmaker strong in Scriptwriting and Directing skills to help create unique video content including short films and docudramas. The role also includes working directly with alumni refugee students from the FilmAid Kenya Media Hub Multimedia Training Program to ensure a continuation in capacity building and on-job training and ensure context-appropriate video productions are realized. Using media for development principles, FilmAid Kenya approach ensures unique participatory methods that put the community at the center of messaging, planning, and execution of media production projects. FilmAid uses then media for community-based screenings and workshops to build local communities’ knowledge, self-awareness, and efficacy and use the information to make positive behavior modifications, build community leadership, and collective participation & respond to social issues that they face. Deliverables of the project • 4 Short films Performance Period and Station This is a performance-based assignment and the final approved deliverables are expected on or before June 30, 2022. Precise timelines will be developed after discussion with the selected Consultant. Sufficient time will be allocated to ensure the content is relevant and brings about the desired results. The Consultant will be based in the field locations - Kakuma or Dadaab. Role Summary The Consultant will be responsible for; ● As a Scriptwriter - Conceptualization of ideas and assemble media assets into high-quality content that supports the Sauti Productions objectives in Health and Education in line with the Creative Briefs. ● As a Director - All phases of the video/film production: scripting, directing, filming, editing, and oversee translating/dubbing into different languages. Specific Duties and Responsibilities** Task 1: Lead filmmaking alumni in scripting, filming, and editing of short films. The Consultant will work with the Producer to lead crew(s) composed of FilmAid Kenya's alumni to develop treatments, synopsis, and scripts for the production of the 4 short fiction films. Task 2: Develop scripts and/or storyboards for the video filming and story writing. The Consultant will engage with the alumni and moderate a session to develop scripts that will guide the content and flow of the 4 short films, and the write-up to ensure there is a similar layout for all the content that is developed. The scripts will be developed to respond to Creative Brief’s needs, with the assistance of and collaboration with the select alumni. Task 3: Direct production and post of the short films. Working with an alumni understudy, The Consultant will direct, as per the script, the production of the 4 short films. Working with the Editor, The Consultant will ensure the inclusion of smooth transitions, voice-overs, sub-titles, foreign language dubbing, and so on, to deliver captivating 7-10 minute films.
