Solidaridad Eastern and Central Africa, one of the regional centres, is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. We bring together supply chain players and engage them with innovative solutions to improve production, ensuring the transition to a sustainable and inclusive economy that maximizes the benefit for all. We facilitate the strengthening of local capacity in developing countries, support the creation of enabling environments for economies to thrive, and improve market access. The TRACE Kenya project contributes to economic growth and promotes environmental and social standards of 15,000 small-holder coffee farmers (30% women and 10% youth) in Kericho, Nandi and Bungoma counties by growing Kenya’s organic coffee for export. Our approach includes capacity building initiatives and interactive training on innovative organic coffee practices, facilitating access to high yielding and disease resistant coffee varieties and promoting eco-friendly technologies in coffee production. Adoption of organic agricultural practices will spur development of organic inputs supply chains and innovations as well as lead to improved coffee volumes increasing farmer incomes and creating new job opportunities. In addition, youth will be equipped with the right skills to enable them to pursue econom-ic opportunities on and off the farm in relation to coffee production. The commercial objective of this project is to develop market access for Kenyan organic coffee in Europe and USA. This translates to premium coffee to global consumers, market expansion for Africa Coffee Roasters EPZ Limited (ACR) and enhanced market for the farmers guaranteeing better incomes and livelihoods. The project strives to create an inclusive, market-driven and sustainable coffee sub-sector that generates increased income opportunities and creates decent jobs for many along the value chain. The project’s ultimate innovation is in the delivery of the first organic certified Kenyan coffee to global consumers. PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT The main purpose of this assignment is to produce high-quality video clips and high-resolution photos of coffee farmers under the ‘TRACE Kenya’ project. This assignment will feature smallholder farmers (men & women), who have received training through the project and outline their individual/personal journey/story/experience thus far and how this has or is anticipated to benefit them. The specific assignment : i. One (1) film - four (4) minutes-long that will be used to pitch organic coffee from Kenya to potential buyers of both roasted/green coffee beans and for screening during coffee tasting events in Kenya and Europe. This film should feature 2-3 farmers during the harvesting, talking about their own challenges and successes, and their commitment to the next steps of the TRACE Kenya project. Also, include footage of other parts of the coffee production/process - at the wet mills and roasting (ACR) to demonstrate that the coffee is taken good care of along the entire value chain. For this, we would want to interview at least six (6) farmers so as to have enough footage to select from when developing the story. ii. One (1) minute clips portraying each individual farmer (women, youth). The clips will be used on coffee packages for the buyers/consumers to scan a QR code and be connected to the story (and person) behind the coffee they buy. iii. High quality portrait pictures of all interviewees for use in marketing materials at a later date. The photos should depict the different phases of coffee production and processing. People hugging, giving high fives, showing the product in the air, etc. The farmer working the field The story: The videos/photos will link the producer (coffee farmers in Kenya) and buyers (and consumers globally). The story will document the ‘Story/Journey of Kenyan Coffee Farmers who are Producing Organic Coffee’ and outline the individuals’ milestones, challenges, motivation, and their commitment to producing coffee that matches the market standards. A final story concept will be co-developed by Solidaridad and the selected videographer/storyteller. DELIVERABLES One (1) high-quality video clip (4 minutes) highlighting organic coffee farmers from Kenya to potential buyers of both roasted/green coffee beans and for screening during coffee tasting events in Kenya and Europe. This video should feature 2-3 farmers during the harvesting, talking about their own challenges and successes, and their commitment to the next steps of the TRACE Kenya project for broadcast and non-broadcast; One (1) minute video clips portraying each individual farmer (women, youth). The clips will be used on coffee packages for the buyers/consumers to scan a QR code and be connected to the story (and person) behind the coffee they buy. A minimum of 50 high-resolution photographs, edited (post-processed), tagged, and captioned according to the Solidaridad photography guidelines; Word document with all the powerful statements/quotes (at least one caption/powerful statement per interviewee) captured during the interviews. All photography should adhere to the Solidaridad photography guidelines and brand manual that will be provided to the photographer. Formats: Please deliver this video in 4 formats: Landscape format, with English subtitles Landscape format, without subtitles Social media format 1080*1350, with English subtitles Social media format 1080*1350, without subtitles All footage needs to adhere to the Solidaridad photography and videography guidelines. Submit the video in an .MOV or .MP4 format In all formats a small Solidaridad logo should be shown in the upper right corner. CONSULTANCY PERIOD The assignment is for a fixed period of 10 days: ● Two (2) days for pre-production and logistical preparations ● Four (4) days for photography/videography in Kericho, Nandi and Bungoma, Kenya ● Four (4) days for post-production writing, editing, etc. Assignment Starting date – December 9, 2021 Date of submission of products for review – December 21, 2021 REQUIREMENT AND SELECTION CRITERIA OF SERVICE PROVIDER Outstanding top-notch videography skills matched with photography expertise; Outstanding video, audio, and photo editing skills; A proven track record (samples of previous similar assignments need to be presented) specifically on documenting project success stories; Experience with documenting international development work. The technical proposal should include the following: ● Organization Profile (max 1 page) explaining why they are the most suitable for the work; ● Relevant Experience (max 1 page); ● Detailed methodology framework with expected deliverables, timelines, man-days, and financial resources required (3-5 pages); ● Recent CV’s for the team; ● Company Registration and PIN certificates; ● 3 testimonials from 3 organizations for which the service provider executed a similar assignment. The financial proposal should include the following: ● Fixed professional fee for the assignment including preparation, fieldwork (photography & videography), data analysis, writing process, final editing, and reporting; ● Government taxes; ● Other related costs. P.S. The service provider is responsible for his/her own equipment (e.g. cameras, laptops), including the proper insurance of such items and software. COPYRIGHT CREDITS In consideration of the fees paid, the videographer expressly assigns to Solidaridad any copyright arising from the works the videographer produces while executing this contract. Solidaridad herewith has non-exclusive world rights to selected images in all media (so including non-Solidaridad media) in perpetuity. Solidaridad will not use the images for other purposes than promoting Solidaridad (in the widest sense of the word). In printed materials with a colophon, Solidaridad will credit the photographers. In external media, photographers can be credited with a combination of the name of Solidaridad with the name of the photographer, so: © Solidaridad/John Doe. In digital media, posters, and banners photographers are usually not credited. All images (whether used for online or print purposes) must include the videographer’s name in the metadata. The videographer may not use, reproduce or otherwise disseminate or authorize others to use, reproduce or disseminate such works without prior consent from Solidaridad. How to apply: 1.
