Summary

The Global Survivors Fund (the Fund) has established an ambitious goal – to unleash at least 50 million USD for survivors of conflict related sexual by 2022. The journey towards establishing this ambitious goal has been a path forged by a diverse group of individuals over many years - spearheaded by Dr. Denis Mukwege.

The Fund is an innovative, survivor-centric mechanism whose mission is to ensure survivors of conflict-related sexual violence have access to reparations and other forms of redress, globally, including where the states or other parties responsible for the violence are unwilling or unable to providing reparations.

The Fund is a purpose driven partnership between multiple stakeholders who assume a shared responsibility to achieve transformative change for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence. The Founders of the Fund – Dr. Denis Mukwege and Ms. Nadia Murad believe this initiative will achieve its intended impact and build long lasting solutions for the deeply embedded challenges in communities afflicted by conflict-related sexual violence.

The Fund was endorsed by the UN Secretary-General in his statement to the Security Council on conflict-related sexual violence in April 2019 and language referencing the Fund was included in Security Council Resolution 2467.
