The Consortium was created in 2013 and is now implementing projects in all Federal Member States of Somalia. BRCiS is committed to adaptive management of its programmes, guided by a strong learning strategy. The Consortium also enforces systematic decentralization of decision making to the field level and the communities, fostering innovation and self-reliance. The position advertised is based with NRC, the Consortium lead agency. The BRCiS Consortium Communication & Advocacy Coordinator is a member staff of the Consortium Management Unit (CMU) and works for Consortium Members (including ACF, Candlelight, Cesvi, Concern Worldwide, Gredo, Kaalo, IRC and Save the Children). ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES The purpose of the Communication & Advocacy Coordinator position is to facilitate the development and implementation of the BRCiS Consortium communication and advocacy strategy and visibility plans. Generic responsibilities Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines Develop and coordinate the implementation of BRCiS Consortium’s communication and advocacy strategy Develop branding guidance and tools for the Consortium Work with Members and CMU to develop quality standards for all communication materials produced by the Consortium; Ensure the adherence of Consortium Members to the communication and advocacy strategy and visibility plans. Build Consortium Members staff capacity in terms of communication and advocacy. Collaborate with MEAL and Programme teams to develop a communication plan to ensure the dissemination of BRCiS learning and programme product Develop and disseminate BRCiS communication materials that contribute to promoting the BRCiS brand Specific responsibilities Liaise with CMU programme and MEAL and consultants to produce quality learning products; Develop and disseminate BRCiS communication products e.g. fliers, brochures, newsletters; Work with the Consortium Members to execute communication and visibility plans for the different projects and follow up of the plans to ensure link with the programs; Lead communication capacity building and mentoring for Consortium Members. Facilitate the development and dissemination of success stories, case studies, lessons learnt in collaboration with the Consortium Members; Organize physical and online dissemination events related to BRCiS content and learning; Develop dissemination plans for all the learning and communication outputs produced by the CMU, and execute them; Enhance BRCiS online presence by updating the Consortium’s webpage and ensuring the online sharing of our communication materials; Work with Members to ensure the dissemination of communication products on their communication platforms, including social media; Develop and distribute digital materials such as stories, videos, pictures/photos from the Field. Facilitate field visits for media and journalists in collaboration with the Consortium Members Coordinate the development of the Consortium advocacy strategy and plan and coordinate advocacy activities Represent the Consortium in advocacy forums and events outside the consortium Undertake other duties as may be required by the consortium that relate to the specified role or enhance implementation and adoption of best practices CRITICAL INTERFACES By interfaces, NRC means processes and projects that are interlinked with other departments/units or persons. Relevant interfaces for this position are: Consortium Member Communication Focal Points Programme Management department Consortium Members Programme and MEAL Managers Consortium Management Unit (M&E, learning partner) COMPETENCIES Professional competencies Minimum 4 years experience of relevant work experience in communication, media, advocacy roles Minimum 2 years experience working in the humanitarian and development sector Proven track record of in writing of journalistic products – articles, case studies, press releases Experience coordinating digital content production for website and social media Photography, video skills and graphic design are highly desirable Excellent oral and written communication skills Proactive self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision. Academic and Professional Qualifications Advanced university degree in communications, journalism, humanitarian project coordination. Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience In-depth knowledge of Somalia socio-economic and cultural context In-depth knowledge of stakeholders and concepts in the field of resilience, early warning and early action humanitarian assistance In-depth knowledge of stakeholders, media and influencers that are relevant to advocacy and communication in Somalia. Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Somali Behavioural competencies Planning and delivering results Ability to work under pressure, prioritize and meet deadlines Meticulous attention to detail Flexible, enthusiastic and willing to learn from others Responsive, efficient and a positive manner and the ability to work as part of a team.
