Admin Posted December 2, 2020 Share Posted December 2, 2020 Organization: International Organization for Migration Closing date: 16 Dec 2020 Context: Under the overall supervision of the Programme Support Unit Coordinator, and the direct supervision of the Media and Communications Officer, the Associate Media and Communications Officer will support with development and quality control of written content to present the mission’s work to an external audience and assist with the formulation and implementation of communications strategies to promote IOM Iraq and raise awareness of migration issues both nationally and internationally. Core Functions / Responsibilities The Associate Media and Communications Officer will contribute towards maintaining high exposure and supporting the production of public information materials to ensure the organization’s work is visible to donors and partners. Public Information and Media Engagement Draft written communications products destined for an external audience, ranging from social media posts and SitReps to press releases, in clear and concise English. Ensure the quality control of all written content emerging from the Public Information Unit in English (with close attention to spelling, grammar, clarity and IOM Style) Support the development of visibility plans for project proposals. Write, edit and produce timely public information material for IOM’s bi-weekly press briefing notes, global and country website, social media, newsletters and other media channels. Draft op-eds, features and news stories showing IOM’s response work in the affected areas, with a particular focus on key strategic issues, destined for local and international audiences. Assist in verifying appropriate gender awareness in all IOM communications. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Media and Communications Officer. Required Qualifications Education · Advanced University degree in Journalism, Communications, Political or Social Sciences or related field, or University degree with two years of relevant professional experience preferred Experience & Skills Demonstrated proficiency as a writer and editor in English (knowledge of Arabic or Kurdish is an advantage) · Relevant work experience in media and communications or related field. Excellent inter-personal skills. Microsoft Office suite. Familiarity with social media community management is an advantage. Languages · Fluency in English and Arabic is required. · Any other language is an advantage. Technical: · Able to work without direct supervision and be results oriented. · Delivers on set objectives in hardship situations. · High level of computer literacy, notably of the Microsoft Office suite (knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator is an advantage). · Effectively coordinates actions with other implementing partners. · Works effectively with local authorities, stakeholders, beneficiaries, and the broader community to advance country office or regional objectives. · Experience in an international, humanitarian/development organization an advantage · Organizational, communication and presentational skills. · Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from different cultures and professional backgrounds.
