Overview

The GeoAnalytics Center (www.geoacenter.com) is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness of peacebuilding activities in the Sahel using locally adapted technology. GeoA uses technology to strengthen relationships between civil society, government, academia and the security sector, ultimately to enhance development objectives and build community resilience. Located in Niamey, Niger, the Project Officer will support the implementation of an upcoming project focused on social media and elections. The project will promote balanced, responsible election content via online platforms to mitigate disinformation and political escalation, while promoting peaceful, democratic change—with a specific focus on including women. This position is pending final approval of funding from the donor.

Key Duties

  • Conduct mapping of social media influencers in Niger and cultivate relationships with individuals to engage them in project activities.

  • Supports the organization of training workshop for social media influencers, including development of training agenda and logistics.

  • Support planning and logistics related to GeoA’s training component, including support to international trainer.

  • Provide follow-up support after the training workshop to ensure social media influencers are engaged and applying new learning

  • Establish and maintain instant messaging groups to disseminate election-related content.

  • Lead project management components including preparing and updating work plan, drafting project reports, reviewing budget spending, and lead close-out in collaboration with GeoA’s Country Manager.

  • Conduct interview and focus groups, as well as track online data to inform project baseline and indicator monitoring data.

  • Collaborate on project research components with Research Manager, including monitoring of metrics and conduct interviews, support to create surveys and other data collection, as needed.

  • Ensure all activities engage women participants and reflect gender sensitive project components.

  • Other tasks, as required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • At least 4-5 years of prior professional experience focused on social media and/or journalism.

  • Being well-informed about the political situation in Niger, being able to explain it to a foreign audience.

  • Experience with project management, including work planning, budget management, and donor-related reporting.

  • Strong logistical, organizational and event management capacities.

  • Strong computer literacy, including ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and other basic packages; experienced with social media and instant messaging platforms and able to engage on them.

  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving problems and suggesting improvements.

  • Attention to detail and ability multi-task, as well as complete requested tasks on deadline.

  • Ability to work independently and remotely, using regular calls with supervisor to coordinate tasks.

  • Professional working level French-English, including ability to do translation.

  • Knowledge of local languages such as Hausa and/or Zarma is a valued advantage.

  • Available 40 hours a week
